| BISBank announced on 20 July that it developed a response system for illegal IP infringements (known as Sauron) in order to protect the IP right holders from illegal online downloads. Such development was initially stimulated by the fact that Korea is ranked 33rd in terms of protection of intellectual property rights despite its ranking 4th in terms of the number of patents filed and 9th in terms of overall intellectual property rights. This new system is capable of providing real-time monitoring of intellectual properties that are circulated online without the approval of the IP right holder. It is also capable of verifying IP infringements, collecting proofs, requesting deletion of certain posts, and filing legal suits in response. A BISBank spokesperson explained that the system is capable of working 365 days, 24 hours a day, and processing 300,000 cases of data an hour. In comparison to an old IP protection method of DNA filtering that filtered illegal intellectual properties that are uploaded online after extracting the DNA of the original files, Sauron is different in terms of utilizing a pattern recognition technology. |
